My wife and I had never been to Columbia before and had no idea if this B&B would be well located. As it turned out, it couldn't have been better located for all the things we wanted to do. Extremely comfortable and well-appointed. The interesting history of the house was an unexpected plus. High recommended.

A wonderful historic B & B.....Mary Chesnut's house, she of the famous Civil War diary. The property is filled with beautiful antiques and art, rooms are very comfortable, bathroom includes a whirlpool bath. A classic front porch with swing, too, as well as a lovely shade garden in the back with a lighted gazebo. The proprietor/hostess, Mary, is a delight, very knowledgeable, and eager to please.

We had a lovely stay at the Chestnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast. We were in Columbia to experience the town's history and culture and the B&B is conveniently located to it all. The B&B is itself full of history--it has its own historic marker out front--and is beautifully appointed with antiques and collectibles of interest. The Innkeeper (Mary) s very friendly, and the resident cat is even friendlier, Patty Cake--so make sure to give Patty Cake a belly rub. Right across the street is Woodrow Wilson's childhood home (literally) and a block or so away from other historic mansions and buildings to tour--so take advantage of the location.

We stayed at the cottage during the University of South Carolina Family Weekend and loved it. The hostess, Mary, is a true gem - made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. She introduced us to other guests and gave us a tour of her beautiful home. The home is absolutely beautifully appointed and welcoming and close to both the downtown area and the school. Most of the other guests we met had stayed here before and we have already booked our room for next year. The morning breakfast is delicious - she made a french toast that was to die for! A great front porch for just enjoying a sweet tea and a book

Wonderful place to stay in the MOST charming area of Columbia. Highly recommend it as a romantic B&B for a honeymoon or a nice place to stay if swinging through Columbia for a night. Mary and Her crew are exceptional!

We were traveling with our 9 months old and two mini Goldendoodles. We've never stayed in a B&B before and this one looked perfect. When we got there, we had a warm, welcoming greeting and the cutest room waiting for us. We were in a suite separate from the main house which was ideal for us. The bed was incredibly comfortable (I need to buy those sheets!) and the shower/jacuzzi tub was massive! Mary (the owner) made us such a delicious breakfast in the morning, and we just hung out and chatted with a couple of other guests. Such a nice experience. We hope to return one day and would definitely recommend it!

Whenever I am in Columbia visiting family, I stay at Chesnut Cottage. Mary, the owner, is charming and welcoming. The house is a gorgeous southern home and the rooms have been decorated with care. The kindness and care shown to me while there is extraordinary!

World-class B&B experience. Engaging (without being intrusive or overbearing) hostess- all the wonderful hospitality of the true South. Extremely comfortable beds, beautiful room, wonderful breakfast, and a great location for seeing Columbia-which is a gem of a city in every way; restaurants, shopping, cultural events beautiful places to walk, to name just a few.

Gracious living hosted by a central casting Southern Belle. Mary runs the absolute best in a B&B stay. True Southern hospitality; beautiful rooms, some education (should one desire it) on local history (and literature), a wonderful breakfast to mention a few. It could not have been more comfortable-our room was beautiful, and complete-down with robes, shower amenities, and coffee in the room -as well as wine glasses and an opener. There are areas to relax outdoors on site. (check out the gazebo) Seriously- I would come back to Columbia (a very cosmopolitan city, with all one, could ask in culture and cuisine) just to stay at The Chestnut Cottage again. Thank you, Mary!
